Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953) was a British-French writer and historian, known for his prolific literary output in a variety of genres, including poetry, essays, novels, and travel writing. Belloc was born in France, but his family moved to England when he was young, and he later became a naturalized British citizen.

Belloc attended Balliol College, Oxford, where he developed a strong interest in Catholicism, which would become a central theme in his writing. He published his first book of poetry, "Verses and Sonnets," in 1895, and went on to write several more collections of poetry over the course of his career.
