Plato (c. 427–347 BCE) was an ancient Greek philosopher, a student of Socrates, and the teacher of Aristotle. He founded the Academy in Athens, one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in the Western world. Plato is best known for his works of philosophy, including dialogues such as 'The Republic', 'Apology', 'Phaedo', and 'The Symposium'. His philosophy explored justice, ethics, politics, metaphysics, and the nature of reality, often through Socratic dialogues. Plato’s theory of Forms and his ideas about the ideal state have had a profound impact on Western philosophy, influencing centuries of thought.
